Fancy Hats and Tea Parties

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope everyone had a lovely day with the women who raised them. I’m certainly grateful for my wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmothers. Without my mother, I don’t know if I’d be blogging. She made certain that I never lacked for any craft or art supply, spent innumerable hours making things with me (including miniature Fimo tacos), and has the amazing ability to identify the glue needed to fix any project you can imagine. Love you Mum!
The historic home I work at had a tea party yesterday for Mother’s Day, complete with a fancy hat parade (I love Kentucky’s devotion to fancy hats) and a musical performance by a local youth drama group. It was absolutely a ton of fun.
Here’s some crafts associated with the event.
I made a hat to get in the spirit of things. Of course, as an employee, I did not participate, but I’ve never had a reason to wear a fancy hat before! Obviously, I jumped on the chance. It’s my first hat creation, aside from my wedding veil. The feathers are peacock, so they have green and blue in them, which the photo doesn’t really show.
I made some parking signs, too, since there was an art show going on downtown at the same time. The lettering is freehand. I love working at the historic house! I get to do different things every day, from working with advanced museum software and creating exhibits to arts-and-crafts days making centerpieces and parking signs for parties.
Love the hat! The signs are VERY nice lettering. I love hand lettering, especially in signs.
Thank you very much! 🙂
