Guest Room Remodel

The second Sunday Fun-day has come and gone. We had another great day filled with creativity. Of course, there isn’t always going to be something to share each week. Sometimes projects take a few Fun-days to complete. (Think paint.)

Not to disappoint, however. I have plenty of backlogged projects done, documented, and in need of blogging, with more completed all the time.

Here’s one that I finished over a month ago! It was my first foray into room-painting. I’m so pleased with the result.

First, some BEFORE pictures.

This is what the guest bedroom looked like when we came to tour the house.

Here’s a better picture of the room. This one is from the day we moved in. The previous owner kindly left the curtains and the bedspread that matched the wallpaper border. Where does one even find a set like that?

Here you can see the border, curtains, AND the matching bedspread. Also, there is an awkward air grate in the closet that lets in light and sound from the craft room and vice versa.

I scraped the wallpaper off pretty shortly after we moved in. The bedspread and curtains are long gone. The paint didn’t extend under the wallpaper, so there was a jagged white area underneath that highlighted the grayness of the top of the wall.

I painted, took the terrible folding closet doors off, put up new curtains, and here’s what it looks like NOW:

Paint colors: Upper half- Valspar Crisp Linen in Eggshell; trim- Valspar Mark Twain House Oak in Eggshell; and bottom half- Behr Sweet Molasses in Eggshell.

I am planning on staining the dresser red and the bed blue. The bag on the floor is waiting to be mailed to Jaybird.

This is our bright ‘fun’ room. It’s for all the bright, whimsical things we have that don’t go with the rest of the house, and also for all of our music posters. The room should tie in with the browns and reds that the rest of the house is and will be painted. It is a much nicer room to be in now!
